Some people have asked me what I did to create the HTCR phase II truck sideframe on this model. The Athearn truck sideframe was modified using the BC-244 bearing cap detail (as shown) and the truck strut was then repositioned to the proper location. Any holes left on the sideframe after the repositioning, were filled with putty and sanded smooth. As you can see, the right front truck has the strut in a different position than the left rear truck; the same is also true for the other side. The chain was added by bending a piece of .010" brass wire forming a hook, then drilling a #79 hole at the specified location, as shown. The chain was then hooked on. Finally, using a pair of tweezers, the loop was closed..
